“We will make sure sanitary wear is available in schools to protect the self-esteem of the girl child. Menstruation has no lock down so we must make the girl child is protected and upheld. Schools in Chegutu District, under which Norton falls, are producing 53 000 face masks per day. Today we rolled out another project to manufacture reusable pads in Norton to support the girl child.” Temba Mliswa said.

In recognition of the Menstrual Hygiene Day, Temba Mliswa the legislator for Norton Constituency handed over some re-usable sanitary wear at an event held at Chiedza Primary School which was attended by school heads from Norton. Amongst resolutions agreed at the event, is the manufacturing of sanitary wear in Norton to enable provision of pads for all schools.

Mliswa has over the years advocated for men to be lectured on the importance of being involved in female sanitary wear issues as most men seem to be ignorant on such issues.

This year’s theme was Periods in Pandemics. It is estimated that on daily basis 300 million people menstruate around the globe and being able to access sanitary products, safe and hygienic spaces in which to use them and the right to manage their periods without a shame is essential.

Temba Mliswa is much concerned on the welfare of school children hence is participation in facilitation of sanitary wear supply in schools. Recently he was advocating for schools to delay opening doors because the country is not rendered safe from the COVID-19 pandemic.
